Can you identify this flying insect? We saw it in Montreal area of Quebec, Canada.

Answer
Marie,

This is a sphinx moth, also sometimes called hummingbird moths, see http://www.fs.fed.us/wildflowers/pollinators/pollinator-of-the-month/hummingbird. There are several species of these large moths that resemble small birds.
