Entomology (Study of Bugs)/Please help me identify this apartment bug!

Mystery black bug
Mystery black bug

I moved into a new apartment a few days ago in NYC and I am now finding tiny black bugs everywhere. I have had bedbugs before and these are not it. They are about the size of a pin head with small antennae, no wings, They don't appear to jump or bite.

Please help me identify so I know if they are harmful

Hi Anne
I cannot see much detail but I believe this is a dermestid beetle. They are basically harmless except that they can become pantry pests or damage materials. If you brought any dried foods with you check your cupboards. Also check your dry goods. Can you find where and if they are concentrating Vacuum them all up and if they return find out where they are coming from. If they come back get some boric acid powder of diatomaceous Earth and spread it around you baseboards.

Let me know what happens
