Just stumble upon your site. Thanks for being there to help this amateur naturalist!
* Photo attached ~ 2:15pm 18aug2014
* DuPage County, IL
* Found indoors on ceiling of foyer of my home
* Remained motionless mid-ceiling while I observed/photographed it
* size? hmmmm? perhaps 4mm-ish abdomen circumference?
* vigorous Internet research pointed me to perhaps some sort of Mimetus sp? --- but what do I know?

Your ID is absolutely correct!  It is a pirate spider, either Mimetus or Ero for the genus.  I did at least one blog post about them...

They are among my favorite arachnids, and more common than you might suspect.
