Can you tell me what this is please.It is small 1/4 inch or less.Dark color on both ends lighter in the middle.I find them on the floor walls and ceiling and as soon as you touch them they free fall.I live in Brasher Falls,New York USA Thanks,,,Bob

This is called a larder beetle (see http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsheets/larder-beetle for an extension-type bulletin). They generally infest stored foods but are not otherwise harmful. Once you locate the source and dispose of infested material you can treat the infested storage area with one of the botanical insecticides (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/botanical_insecticide.html) such as EcoPCO-DX.
