Entomology (Study of Bugs)/I'm raising Imperial moth caterpillar

I live in Sulphur louisiana and I'm raising Imperial moth caterpillar was wonder what time of year they enter the ground to make chrysalis. Thank you

H Melissa
It depends upon the stage the caterpillar is in. Each stage is called an instar and all Saturn moths enter the soil to pupate after the fifth instar. In the south they will usually pupate in March. However yours in in captivity. Since this is June it should be ready now to pupate.
