Interested in identification. Have lived in a very rural area in middle Tennessee
For many years. First one of these I've seen.

This is called a cicada (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cicada for the wikipedia page). These insects live most of their lives underground feeding on the roots of trees. Adults like this one produce a loud high-pitched mating song. They are harmless.
