I live in Fairborn Ohio and this bug keeps showing up in my room near my bed. I've got some brand-new kittens in my room right now so I don't want any strange bugs around that might harm them so basically I'm asking is this bug dangerous to animals or to me I suppose. The only defining characteristics that I can think of about it is that it ran away from any bright lights.   The bug seem to have six or eight legs, Two eyes, to antennae. It looked like it had mandibles but they did not seem to be for offense. It also seemed to have a defined head and abdomen section. It was completely light brown except for on its abdomen, right at the back, where it had a black spot. That's the best physical description I have.

Looks like a bed bug, see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/bed_bug.html for a comparison. Follow the instructions on that page and http://www.livingwithbugs.com/bed_bug2.html for finding and treating bed bugs. When caught early a bed bug infestation can be managed but be sure to check your mattress completely. They won't harm the kittens. Post a follow up if you have questions.
