Expert: Dr. Jesse LaPrade - 10/29/2009

Question
The Nigerian Government said no gas flaring by 2009. the multi-national oil companies says its not possible and practicable. Government now says Dec.31 2010.

Question:

HOW WOULD YOU USE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION OR DESIGN AN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMME TO CONVINCE THE MULTI-NATIONAL OIL COMPANIES ON WHY THE HAVE TO STOP GAS FLARING IN NIGERIA?

Answer
Leema:

The oil refineries can greatly reduce gas flaring at their facilities, but it will cost more money to get the same product. The price for gasoline and diesel fuel will increase at the pump.

If the Government stays the course, gas flaring will be greatly reduced, at a cost increase certainly passed on to the consumer, one of which is the government. This will provide for cleaner air for all citizens to breath and will likely increase longevity of all citizens in the area.Your education program needs to be for the people of Nigeria and the government. The gas companies have faced this demand in America and they have complied, visa vie a price increase.
