AboutDavid L. Russell, PE Expertise I`m a Chemical,Civil and Environmental Engineer and have a number of projects in all phases of the environment.
I have worked in the chemical industry and am active in professional societies, and am currently on an industrial wastes committee for the Water Environment Federation, and have taught courses in remediation in the US and abroad.
I have written one book on Remediation of petroleum Contaminated Sites, and have a second book on PRACTICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT to be published by John Wiley in September, 2006. I've also written over 30 articles on various elements of environmental problems and cleanup. Most Recently, I have addressed a NATO Scientific and Techical Conference on Ecoterrorism, and have worked with the same group on remediation of sites contaminated with Chemical Warfare Agent materials and othe materials as well. . I can answer q`s about Chemical and Environmental Engineering, land development, air pollution, water pollution, soil and water cleanup, combustion, international environmental problems, industrial processes chemical processes. Civil and Environmental and Chemical Engineering. Overall, I have over 35 years of experience in this area. Note: I do not answer homework questions
Experience I love work in the third world and developing areas
because it is challenging and one can get a sense of accomplishment.
Question hello my name is jesse, i have a little brother whose about to graduate high school and he was just wondering what is a typical work day like for an environmental engineer, because he is planning on going to college for it and is just wondering whats it gonna be like when he starts his career.
Answer Jesse:
There are any number of areas of environmental engineering he can get involved in. Take a good look at my resume, I've been involved in most of them.
The most probable is, unless he specializes at the Master's Level, he will wind up doing site plans, grading, sewer design, and some stormwater design. That means working with autocad a lot and dealing with plans and specification.
If he chooses to specalize, he might get into air pollution work which is permitting and involves lots of number crunching and modeling and working with calculating the air emissions from a number of new and existing air sources.
There is the possiblity that he may get involved in remediation, cleanup of contaminated sites, which involves a lot of construction work and field work, or that he may get involved in water pollution design and permitting - some computer modeling of wastewater treatment plants, but that depends upon his computer skills and interest in that type of work.
I've kind of fallen into the international thing because that's where my interest lies and it's been an interesting time working in different countries, but that's not for everyone.
If your brother has questions why not have him drop me a line? The answers that I write are all on the public website for all experts.
