Question Dear David,
We are using Blue Vitriol (Copper Sulfate )as fugicidal in a natural pool in our country house.I just want to know if this may be harmful to fruit trees or other plants.
Thank you
Jesse
Answer because it is a fungicide, it will be slightly harmful to other plants and trees. Specifically, I do not know. I would imagine that the best people to give you advice is the agricultural agent in your county or district.
However, given that concentrations are probably low, it may not do any harm. Realize, however, that copper sulfate is a known toxin and it may be on the EPA list of registered substances such as hazardous wastes and if you spill over 100 lbs of the material into the waterways, you may have to notify the EPA.
You might be better off using something like Shade or some other pond water coloring agent which turns things blue and prevents the water from growing algae because it can't get enough light. It also may depend upon the flow through your pond.
Hope that helps.
