Environmental Science - Environmental issue topic!

Expert: David L. Russell, PE - 1/27/2009

Question
Hi i was hoping you could help me in selecting a topic,

I need to look for recent law, bill or amendment to a law that addresses an environmental issue. It can be in any stage in development (proposal, debate, upcoming ballot measure, in committee, etc) and can be at either the local, state, national or global level.

I've been searching the internet for a more recent law or whatever on environmental issues and I cant seem to find one.

Do you have any suggestions on a topic I could use?

Answer
Sherry:
Try reading the Kyoto treaty on the environment. Then compare it with the IPCC report, and then check 350.org and coolerheads.org.  That should get you started on the rush to judgement on the global warming treaty.  you can also search the supreme court docket for a ruling which said that the EPA has the right and obligation to control Carbon Dioxide emissions.

The IPCC report needs to be read critically with special emphasis on what they are saying and inferring and look carefully at the way they define the statistics when they use terms like "very likely" as it implies a degree of uncertainty. Look carefully at the uncertainty in each of the statements.

The Kyoto protocols can be found by starting at:
http://unfccc.int/kyoto_protocol/items/2830.php
and dig in from there.
coolerheads.org is a greenhouse/global warming "wait a minute" site which requests further proof before we commit about 30% of the world's resources to fix something which may be a natural problem we cannot fix.
The cause for global warming is both manmade and natural.  The major question is how much of the contribution is by man, and is the 350 PPM CO2 limit really as much of a danger as many people think that it is?

That should keep you busy for a while and inform you on the topics.
Write back if you have further questions.

Dave
