AboutDavid L. Russell, PE Expertise I`m a Chemical,Civil and Environmental Engineer and have a number of projects in all phases of the environment.
I have worked in the chemical industry and am active in professional societies, and am currently on an industrial wastes committee for the Water Environment Federation, and have taught courses in remediation in the US and abroad.
I have written one book on Remediation of petroleum Contaminated Sites, and have a second book on PRACTICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT to be published by John Wiley in September, 2006. I've also written over 30 articles on various elements of environmental problems and cleanup. Most Recently, I have addressed a NATO Scientific and Techical Conference on Ecoterrorism, and have worked with the same group on remediation of sites contaminated with Chemical Warfare Agent materials and othe materials as well. . I can answer q`s about Chemical and Environmental Engineering, land development, air pollution, water pollution, soil and water cleanup, combustion, international environmental problems, industrial processes chemical processes. Civil and Environmental and Chemical Engineering. Overall, I have over 35 years of experience in this area. Note: I do not answer homework questions
Experience I love work in the third world and developing areas
because it is challenging and one can get a sense of accomplishment.
Question Goodday Sir,
I want you to help me with site(s)or acess to materials, where i can get information on the design of a Solid waste dump site.in essence, how do i design a solid waste dump site? I need to know a lot about it because i want to design one. I will be expecting.
Thanks
A second good place for information would be Amazon books on the web. There are a number of books about landfill design there.
What you are undertaking is going to be quite a project. I would strongly suggest that you retain the services of a competent professional engineer to assist you in the design. There are many variables which require technical evaluation, and while you might be able to do something like that by yourself, I do not know if your government will permit the construction of a landfill without some type of engineering design or certification. I simply do not know about that, and that may be your largest hurdle. There are many questions which need to be answered:
What is the type of waste and how much waste?
What are the soils in the area?
Do you have enough land?
Is the site suitable for a landfill (is it in a flood plain? Is there enough clay available for a liner?) etc.
The other question you should be asking include: What type of equipment will I need, and How much will the entire project cost?
The other significant question you need to ask is what is the revenue stream from this landfill?
Then there is the question of how you will finance your operations?
I'm afraid that this will require an engineering feasibility study, and several thousands of dollars.
I don't know what your financial situation is, but properly designed landfills can be a good source of revenue.
Please feel free to write back if you need further assistance.
