Thank you for taking me into consideration to answer you questions about Famine.
Q: What are/could be the Best Methods / Practices for tackling Famines ?.
A: We all know that this issue is a worldwide concern. Even first world countries are having hard time looking for best methods on how to totally eradicate this problem. Famines have many causes, so there are many solutions in terms of preventing one from starting. These include:
> Maintain a balanced agriculture that is not dependent on one or two crops
> Farm using effective soil conservation techniques to prevent erosion
> Use good water management methods to ensure farms receive adequate water without wasting it.
> Control or limit increases in population density.
> Help farmers improve their farming methods and diversify.
> Reduce urban crowding and poverty.
> Prevent, avoid or end wars.
> Maintain a store of food stuffs for use during drought or other upset situations.
Q: Do you feel the main cause of Famines is due to Droughts ?.
A: No, famine is not oly caused by droughts. Famine can also be caused by floods, volcaninc eruptions, earthquakes, over populated areas that are unable to feed masses of people, poor quality of health facilities, and this can also be caused by governments that have poor management of resources. There are so many causes of famine.
Q: Proper use of Fertilizers, Insecticides, Pesticides, Technology Advancement in Agriculture could be good solution for preventing and tacking famines?
A: Yes, these are true. Most countries today are into these solutions. But for me these are not sustainable because eventhough it is used properly, still it gives adverse affects to our land because they still have these chemicals. For me, the best solution to solve food famine is to embrace organic farming. This will also preserve our lands for the future generation.
