AboutJoseph DeMartino Expertise I am an epileptic for 43 yrs.my seizures began when I was a 7yr.old
child.they disappeared for approx.21yrs.they reappeared when I was 28.
no outward cause for the return.in 1992 I had surgery on my left temporal lobe and again in `93.they lessened but I still had them. I now take dilantin and trileptal.seizures are partial ly controlled. I am well versed in the subject.
Question My dilantin levels were at 32 before the were checked.
How long did it take to get that high? The reason I am asking is I think being at this level has really messed up my realationship with my boyfriend because I wasn't thinking normal.
Thank You Cindy
Answer hi cindy
first of all, let's remember that the control of your seizures is the first priority.levels depend a great deal on the size of the person taking the medication
also, have you just begun taking them or has it been while?
you must remember that each person has different responses to a medication.also if you are taking another medication as well they could be interacting.with that said it should take 3 to 5 days for the levels to balance.sometimes as long as a week.if you think a problem exists make an appointment with your neurologist and make him aware of your worries.good luck, joe
