Do you know where the phrase "everything but the kitchen sink" came from?

Thanks

Answer

Hello, I hope you're having a fine week,
I'm told that the origin of 'everything but the kitchen sink' dates back to the 1940's and a radio program called Queen for a Day.  Several women contestants told the very sad stories of their lives.  The woman whose story was judged the most poignant was dubbed Queen for a Day and won many prizes.  After listing the prizes, the emcee would say, "You've won everything but the kitchen sink".
I can't prove that this is the exact etymology but I have heard it from several reliable sources
The best to you always,   Carol P.
