About Ted Nesbitt
Expertise
I have an interest in the meanings of words and phrases, as well as how and when they became part of the English language. I enjoy researching idioms, colloquialisms, dialects, and obscurities of all kinds. I prefer short questions on a particular subject, and I will not accept lengthy research projects or term papers. NOTE: ALLEXPERTS CLAIMS THAT I TRANSLATE FROM ENGLISH TO LATIN AND FROM LATIN TO ENGLISH. I DO NOT. ALLEXPERTS REFUSES TO DELETE THE LATIN-TO-ENGLISH SERVICE -- ONE THAT I DO NOT PROVIDE. TRUST ME ON THIS: ALLEXPERTS IS WRONG. I DO NOT TRANSLATE FROM ENGLISH TO LANGUAGE. LOOK FOR A LANGUAGE EXPERT INSTEAD. ETYMOLOGY AND TRANSLATING SERVICES ARE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT. ALLEXPERTS SHOULD KNOW THAT. ALLEXPERTS DOES NOT KNOW THAT. I HAVE TRIED FOR MANY YEARS TO GET THEM TO CHANGE. THEY WILL NOT. SORRY, BUT I DO NOT TRANSLATE FROM ENGLISH TO LATIN.

Experience
I am the bibliographic instruction and reference librarian at a public
college. My master's thesis concerns William Faulkner's tragic novels. I formerly taught advanced placement English at two schools in the Philadelphia area.
I have been a member of the grammar and writing section of Allexperts
for more than a year.

Education/Credentials
Masters degrees in English, philosophy, and library science.

Question
This chorus line from Evanescence´s Whisper, sounded familiar, is there a chance that this was also from an aria or opera not sure. any help would be grately appreciated, as it is driving me nuts, is swear that i have heard it before somwhere maybe it's just the symphony music that accompanies it.

Answer
Neil:

I have received many questions about these phrases, which could very well appear in any number of musical compositions, such as masses, requiems, cantatas, etc.  I know of no opera that has these words.

However, if you are acquainted with the "hip" version of "Romeo and Juliet," you might have heard them in that soundtrack.  The movie was directed by Baz Luhrmann and was made in 1996.

You can get more information from the International Movie Database -- http://www.imdb.com

Here is some references I found by searching online:

What's the song you can hear at the very beginning of the 'Whisper 'demo?

It's made by two songs from the Romeo+Juliet motion picture directed by
'Romeo+Juliet vol 2' di Baz Luhrmann.. here's the titles for both the tracks:

05. 'O Verona (Reprise)' (written by Nellee Hooper, Marius De Vries, Craig Armstrong)
22. 'Death Scene' (written by Nellee Hooper, Marius De Vries, Craig Armstrong)

Neil, the soundtrack is available from many places, including Amazon.com
