Question I have a G4 laptop running 10.3.9 and NAV found over 200 viruses. They are worms that were picked up through Eudora. Any suggestions for keeping out possible future infections? Should these files be deleted from the Quarantine? Are there security settings in Eudora that should be turned on?
thank you,
scott
Answer Hi Scott,
Running NAV or any other AV program, there are two things that should be done. One is to update once a week, in your case run LiveUpdate once a week, even if you have set to automatically run and the other is to run a virus scan once a week.
In NAV, make sure that Enable Auto-protect is checked. Open NAV, click Options.
If the viruses have been quarantined, you can delete them from the Quarantine folder. Under NAV, click Reports, then click View Quarantined Items.
There is no problem with Eudora, NAV should be protecting you. Verify that it is setup correctly.
To make sure there are no other viruses on the computer, you might want to open Internet Explorer and go to:
Click the GO button, then under Virus Detection, click Start. You might be told that you need to download and install ActiveX Controls for the scan to work, answer Yes.
Write down exactly anything it finds, then go to: http://www.symantec.com/search/ and do a search for what was found. Symantec usually has a removal tool and/or directions for removing manually. Make sure that you follow the instructions for removal, step by step, especially the part regarding disabling System Restore.
