What were the kings in the middle ages responsible for?

Hello,

Please note that my field of expertise is Ancient Greek & Roman History (view my profile), i.e. the time period between ca.2000 BC and 476 AD, when the Western Roman Empire fell.

The middle ages of European history, instead, is the time period which commonly dates from the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476 AD  to the beginning of the Early Modern Period in the 15th century, i.e.  1492, when Cristoforo Colombo discovered America.

So, as you can see, the Middle Ages (aka The medieval period) is NOT my field of expertise.

Please look for an expert in that area.
