Modern European History since 1789. I would specialize in two main areas. Firstly,19th century French social and political history, paying attention to the development of republicanism and socialism.Secondly, the conflict between state and church during this period, especially the conflict over education, anticlericalism and the role women played, for example, in the large number of female congregations that developed in the first half of the century. I am also researching material for a book on Anticlericalism in Nineteenth Century France.
