Excel/Two lines of text in one cell
Expert: Tom Ogilvy - 11/5/2008
QuestionI am using Excel to create a chart with text only. How do I enter two separate lines of text in one cell?
Also, in one column I have inserted hyperlinks. I want to add text not included in the hyperlink in the same cell. How do I do that?
AnswerChristine,
Question 1:
two get two lines of text in a cell, with one over the other you would type as below:
this is line 1 <Alt+Enter>
this is line 2
so when you reach the end of the first line, do Alt+enter, then continue typing. You then need to right click on the cell and click format cells - go to the alignment tab and select wrap text. size the column to facilitate the appearance you want.
if you are concatenating information from two existing cells
=A1&char(10)&A2
and format as previously stated.
Question 2:
What you see in a cell with a hyperlink is the value of the cell. If you don't specify anything, it will show the address of the hyperlink, but this address is actually stored separately. Use the arrow keys to enter the cell, then go to the formula bar and type in what you want to see in the cell. It will appear with the hyperlink formatting (usually the default is blue with an underscore as I recall).
