Excel/Trend lines in Excel 2007
Expert: Nathan Head - 10/28/2009
QuestionI would like to make a graph with only a trend line. So I have the data and I know how to make a line graph, and I know how to add a trend line. But now I would like to use the graph with only the trend line visible, not the line with the nominal data points. If I delete the line with the data points, the trend line disappears as well. Any suggestion?
AnswerCharles:
Good question!
1) Select the line with the actual data points.
2) Right-click on the line and choose format data series.
3) Change marker options to none.
4) Change line color to no line.
5) Close the properties box by clicking OK.
The above is for if you have a line chart - the steps vary slightly if you have a bar graph or other chart style (for example, on a bar chart you set the bar fill to none and the border color to to no line).
Please let me know if you have any additional questions!
Revision:
I correctly answered your exact question and you gave me a 9 for knowledge? Odd. I would like to point out you didn't ask about deleting the label from the legend. If you want to delete the label from the legend simply select the individual label in the legend itself (it will only show the text now and will draw a box around the text). Press the delete key on your keyboard - the label will vanish.
