Excel/Lookup
Expert: Aidan Heritage - 11/4/2009
Question
Hello,
I have a validation list and a table which depending on what users pick from the list displays the result from the table. I have used vlookup formulas before, however in this case even though there is only 1 chosen result from the list, there can be multiple answers from the table.
e.g. if users drop down from validation list say Model 743 the corresponding submodels can be 1a, 1b and 1c. I would want all submodels to be showing in the next cells after Model 743 is chosen.
I have tried the attached formula where my Table is from range A2:B7
Thanks, Dianne"
AnswerThis is an array filter - so it needs an array formula - see
http://www.aidanheritage.byethost3.com/excel/Array_Filter.xls
for an example of this, or possibly easier to follow
http://www.aidanheritage.byethost3.com/excel/sample.xls where the same principle is applied but the array is stored in a helper column.
