Excel/Password protect cell editing
Expert: Chad Welch - 11/7/2009
QuestionHello Chad!
Please look at this post before trying to answer my question.
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Excel-1059/2008/2/Cell-protection-password.htm
It is about a small library excel file.
I understood what was written in that post but what I would like is that the people coming into the library to see the file but not to be able to edit anything without the password.
Is that possible in any way?
Thank you in advance! :)
Thorsten
AnswerThorsten,
That is a functionality that is built into Excel. You don't mention which version of Excel you have and the way to access it is slightly different in Excel 2007 compared to previous versions. In Excel 2007 select the review ribbon and then click "Protect Worksheet." In previous versions select the Tools menu and then select Protection>Protect Worksheet. In the box that opens, give or restrict any permissions you would like and enter your password. After clicking OK, you will need to verify the password. Select each worksheet in the workbook and repeat this process. Save the workbook and it will now be locked down to anyone without the password.
Best regards,
