Excel/Altering VBA

Question
Hi Tom

The following code creates a form control box.  I have two questions:

Can the code be adapted to create a dropdown box?

Will the created dropdown box be an activeX one (which is what I need)

Sub a()
Dim btn As Button
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
ActiveSheet.Buttons.Delete
Dim t As Range

For i = 1 To 3
  Set t = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(i, 3), Cells(i, 3))
  Set btn = ActiveSheet.Buttons.Add(t.Left, t.Top, t.Width, t.Height)
  With btn
    .OnAction = "btnS"
    .Caption = "Btn " & i
    .Name = "Btn" & i
  End With
Next i

Application.ScreenUpdating = True

End Sub

Sub btnS()
MsgBox Application.Caller
End Sub

Thanks in advance.

Answer
Christopher Mitchell,

Sub a()
Dim btn As DropDown
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
ActiveSheet.Buttons.Delete
Dim t As Range
Dim v(1 To 3, 1 To 1) As String
v(1, 1) = "AAAA"
v(2, 1) = "BBBB"
v(3, 1) = "CCCC"

For i = 1 To 3
  Set t = ActiveSheet.Range(Cells(i, 3), Cells(i, 3))
  Set btn = ActiveSheet.DropDowns.Add(t.Left, t.Top, t.Width, t.Height)
  With btn
    .List = v
    .OnAction = "btnS"
'    .Caption = "Btn " & i
    .Name = "Btn" & i
  End With
Next i

Application.ScreenUpdating = True

End Sub

Sub btnS()
MsgBox Application.Caller
End Sub

will create 3 forms dropdown boxes.  If you want an activeX combobox, it would be much more complex since you would either have to already have the event code in the sheet module or you would have to write code to the sheet module that would create the event.

I am not sure why you would need an activeX combobox unless you needed features specific to the activeX combobox.  You can get the code for putting in an ActiveX combobox by turning on the macro recorder and doing it manually.  then turn off the macro recorder and examine the recorded code.   However to dynamically create events will require much more effort.
