Excel/slow VBA

Question
Hi Tom

I have just recorded this macro.  However, it runs really slowly.  Is there a more efficient way of writing it?

Sub masterlistreplacement()
'
' masterlistreplacement Macro
'

'
   Sheets("Sheet2rng").Select
   Range("A1:AG2020").Select
   Selection.ClearContents
   Range("A1").Select
   Sheets("Spare sheet2rng").Select
   Range("A1:AG2020").Select
   Selection.Copy
   Sheets("Sheet2rng").Select

   ActiveSheet.Paste
   Range("A1").Select
   Sheets("Choose class").Select
   Range("B4").Select
   Selection.Delete

End Sub

Thanks in advance

Chris

Answer
Christopher Mitchell,

Sub masterlistreplacement()
'
' masterlistreplacement Macro
'

'
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
Application.Caculation = xlManual
  Sheets("Sheet2rng").Select
  Range("A1:AG2020").Select
  Selection.ClearContents
  Range("A1").Select
  Sheets("Spare sheet2rng").Select
  Range("A1:AG2020").Select
  Selection.Copy
  Sheets("Sheet2rng").Select

  ActiveSheet.Paste
  Range("A1").Select
  Sheets("Choose class").Select
  Range("B4").Select
  Selection.Delete
Application.Calculation = xlAutomatic
Application.ScreenUpdating = True

End Sub

might help.

The code isn't doing anything that is time intensive, so I can only assume that calculation might be causing the problem.  But since it is largely a single action, that may just be how long it takes.   You have to ask, is it materially slower than manually?
