Excel/Formula EXCEL 2010

Hello Sir,i have 3 column A,B,C -Row 1 in Sheet 1.Column B and C have DATE as input.i need the column A to read "IN PROGRESS"and highlight it yellow when DATE is input in column B and column A to change from "IN PROGRESS" to read "CLOSED" and highlight it green when date is input in column C .

ex:      A          B          C
   IN PROGRESS [CLOSED]    23-JAN-15     25-JAN-15

so in A1 have the formula

=if(isnumeric(C1),"Closed",if(isnumeric(B1),"In Progress",""))

then select cell A1 and apply conditional formatting.

for your condition you could use a rule like

then format that to display Green

then add another rule to A1 and put in

=A1="In Progress"
then format that to display yellow

If you need more help on putting in conditional formatting,  you can post back with a followup or look at Debra Dalgleish's site where she has many pages on conditional formatting
Look in the index for conditional formatting in section C
