It is possible to develop a system from excel but there are numerous systems already available that will do a much better job that we can develope without putting hours and hours into the system. I strongly suggest that you look into Quickbooks. This accounting system is very user friendly and can do what you are wanting and much more for a very reasonable cost. Quickbooks allows you to do your billing, track your receivables, collect payments, maintain your cash balances enter your vendor invoices and track their payments, and much more.
Look into it and I'm sure you will be pleased with what it can do.
