Excel/Count coloured cells

Hi Tom, is it possible to use a countif formula to count the number of cells of a certain colour (blue) in a range?  Or would I need a macro?

You would need a macro.

If the color is produced by conditional formatting, then a macro really doesn't work well in terms that it would be very complex because VBA doesn't have a built in ability to "see" colors produced by conditional formatting.  What would work would be to reproduce the condition test in a countif formula.  So you would test the condition (which is possibly supported by countif) rather than counting the color.  [countif can count simple conditions].  Complex conditions might require a helper column.
