Question
Hi tom

I have just written the following formula.  When I enter it into a cell I get an error message.  The word in the formula that is highlighted is "St Mark's"  I am assuming the apostrophe is causing a problem.  Could you explain a way around this?

=IF(\$D\$3=1,Bishop Justus!A3, IF(\$D\$3=2,Cudham!A3, IF(\$D\$3=3,Keston!A3, IF(\$D\$3=4,Parish!A3, IF(\$D\$3=5,St Mark's!A3, IF(\$D\$3=6,Trinity!A3, IF(\$D\$3=7,Chislehurst!A3, IF(\$D\$3=8,ELB!A3,""))))))))

Chris

Christopher,

this worked for me.

=IF(\$D\$3=1,'Bishop Justus'!A3, IF(\$D\$3=2,Cudham!A3, IF(\$D\$3=3,Keston!A3, IF(\$D\$3=4,Parish!A3, IF(\$D\$3=5,'St Mark''s'!A3, IF(\$D\$3=6,Trinity!A3, IF(\$D\$3=7,Chislehurst!A3, IF(\$D\$3=8,ELB!A3,""))))))))

note:  Bishop Justus becomes  'Bishop Justus'    since the name contains spaces, you have to enclose in single quotes

St Mark's becomes  'St Mark''s'   it is enclosed in single quotes for the same reason as Bishop Justus.  Additionally, since it contains a single quote, then you have to double that single quote.

Another way would be

=IF(AND(\$D\$3>=1,\$D\$3<=8),CHOOSE(\$D\$3,'Bishop Justus'!A3,Cudham!A3,Keston!A3,Parish!A3,'St Mark''s'!A3,Trinity!A3,Chislehurst!A3,ELB!A3),"")
