# Excel/Formula

Question
Tom,

I'm working with excel 2016. I want to enter a formula in a cell so that if anyone's name is listed, the result will be an 8, if it says "shift", I'll get a 12 and if it's blank I want the cell blank. I used the below formula before adding the shift=12.
=IF(ISTEXT(G5),8,IF(G5="",""))

Thanks,
Tim

Tim,

I will assume there are three possibilities
1.  G5 is empty   ( return an empty string "")
2.  G5="shift"     ( return 12)
3.  G5 is a name   ( return 8 )

I would implement those conditions thusly:

=IF(G5="","",IF(G5="shift",12,8))
