Exporting & Importing Goods - importing textiles from China

Expert: Hank S - 4/15/2009

Question
Hi...I am hoping that you can refer some suppliers from China.  I am wanting to import high end bedding, towels, and other textiles.  I thank you sincerely in advance
Kim

Answer
Hi Kim, my advice is free but you are asking for valuable information. I know bedding suppliers and suppliers of ladies apparel, shoes and various textile products, but I will not tell you their names for free. Check out cantonfair.org. There may still be time to get a plane ticket and book a hotel. I'm sure you can find suppliers there.

As an "importer" you will need to purchase these products in bulk, meaning thousands of sets of bedding, etc. Most good suppliers don't have time for orders smaller than this. You might be able to get started with an initial purchase of just a couple of cbm, but lcl shipments are expensive and difficult to manage. If you're able to ship a full teu or feu of these products then your cost will be $4-5,000 to ship the container, plus the cost of goods, plus import duties, customs broker fees, and warehouse operating expenses. Not to mention the REALLY expensive stuff: sales/marketing and distribution.

If you are prepared to invest all this money and the only missing piece -- the only thing standing between you and your goal of being an "importer" -- are the names of some good suppliers, then surely you are willing and able to pay me, say, $500 for this information.

Do you know WHY I know these suppliers?

Because someone already paid me to find them. A distributor in Detroit paid me to find and visit bedding suppliers in China. In addition to my fee he also paid for travel, meals and accomodations for me and my colleague. He also flew me from NY to Detroit to visit his hq. All told, thousands of dollars were spent in order that I might have the very information you require.

And now it can be YOURS for the LOW LOW PRICE of ONLY $499.99*! But HURRY! This offer won't last long.

*You must also give my answer a good rating.
