Exporting & Importing Goods - Canadian GST

Expert: Mark Mok - 7/8/2009

Question
I am a US business owner. I intend to import goods from India and sell to my customer in Toronto, Canada. Will there be charged a GST or any other such tax? Can my customer get a refund of that tax at a later date?

Answer
Hi,

I'm buying Indian rubber mats and export them to Europe. As I know, India don't have GST and I never paid such tax during my business.

I also heard that US, Canada and Australia has GST but I believe such tax should be only collected inside the country and can be refund later, similar as VAT in Europe.

Kind Regards

Mark
