Question Hello,
I am trying to do a small business in UK. Currently I am looking for branded LCD tv's which can be imported from china. I contacted the dealers through the site alibaba and they gave me good response and reasonable price listing for branded products. Could you please tell me what are the risk of doing a business like this? And also what are the cost associated with this other that the cost quoted by dealers? For doing this business through Internet is there license needed? Thanks in advance.
Answer Dear Saibs,
Glad to meet you by Allexperts.com! In fact, you don't need a license for importing from overseas, but it's better you get a company account from bank so you can use it for taxes. Normally the tax for importing electronics is not very high, but you could check it in your local customs.
Alibaba is a platform which you could find a lot suppliers, but you should be very carefully while you deal with them. The risk is the quality and payment. Some bad supplier will send you copy(fake) products with a branded logo, but it's hard to ask them refund or return your goods to China, because the shipping fee is very high from UK to China.
The cost of importing from overseas is product cost + shipping cost + custom tariff. The supplier will just show you product price and shipping cost, so you have to work out the tariff by yourself.
