Question Can you please tell me the difference between a general practice, internal medicine, and a family practice doctor? I got a new insurance policy and am suppose to pick a doctor but don't know which one to choose. My mom told me to choose a pediatrician as my primary care doctor. Which one do you think I should go with? I'm 20 by the way
Answer Hi Triva,
At age 20 you certainly do NOT want a Pediatrician.
A Family Doctor (Same as general practice) will treat for all illnesses. An Internist, specializes in more complex medical problems although they do general medicine as well. Start out with a General Practitioner or a Family Practice Doctor for yourself.
