Subject: mis-set tibia fracture?

Question
I had a bad accident where I required surgery to my left fibula and tibia.  I know have 22 screws and 2 plates.  that area seems to be healing well.
My concern is the other tibia fracture several inches above the place where my doctor thought it best to let heal on it's own.

However, it has been 6 weeks now and although the x-rays show the ends to be touching now it still appears to me to be quite off-set in my opinion. I would guess by the films that it is offset by exactly 1/2 the width of the bone and the doctor doesn't seem concerned.

However, I am concerned this will heal incorrectly. I was wondering if that is normal and what sort of problems will occur down the road if not remedied.  Should I get a second opinion?

Answer
I don't know the exact rules, but orthopedic docs have guidelines on the long bones, that if they are within a certain distance from each other, and within a certain angulation and within a certain amount offset, that they heal adequatetly without having to manipulate them.  So I would pose the same question to your ortho, but it sounds like he/she feels that it is within that range.
