Expert: Robert Borucki - 10/31/2009

Question
My recent cholesterol level is 320: HLD 179 and LDL 123
and triglyceride 88. My doctor said this is good. Is there such a thing as having too high a HLD level? Thank you for expertise.

Answer
HDL (HLD?)  is 179?  Wow, I have seen it 110 very rarely, I didn't think it could ever go that high.  From what we know, having an HDL of 100 means that your cholesterol alone will not clog up arteries in the heart, brain, etc.  You could assume that even higher is still good... (It probably is) but so few people have levels that high that it hasn't been studied...... I would venture to say that less than 100 people in the world have an HDL over 150.
