Question Hello,
I am in between doctors (old one retired).. and although I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I'm just looking for some advice and maybe some reassurance.
I'm a relatively healthy person. 5'8, 170lb, 25y/o white male w/ no chronic diseases and hardly ever sick... Don't smoke, rarely drink, and often run 3 miles a morning.
Growing up, my "normal" under-the-tongue temperature was always in high 96s - lower 97s, even when I was seemingly sick. When it was above 99, I was SICK.
Recently, my fiancee who I now live with who we suspect had H1N1 is just getting over her fever after 6 days. I've been keeping an eye on mine... and although I got a few 96.5-97s, its mostly been at 95.7 at night. This morning when I woke up, it was only 94.3!
On a hunch, I researched underactive thyroid.. which my grandmother has. However, I only have a few of those symptoms.. such as irritability and some intolerance to cold, which I've self-admittedly always had. No weight gain (in fact I've lost 7lbs in the past 3mon in a workout plan), I have quite a bit of energy, and have no hair loss, etc.
Am I just different?
Answer Maybe you are just different..... but hypothyroidism is always something I look for.... it is a big fooler, because some people can have big obvious symptoms, some others have pretty non descript symptoms. That is why we use it as a screening tool when we do a complete physical on somebody. I would have it checked once when you do get back with your regular doctor.... the TSH should be between .5 and 1.5.
Otherwise, there are people who have a slightly lower healthy body temperature.... if you do get swine flu, believe me, your temp will go well above 99.
