Question i was wondering what a cna must consider when giving care to a person with a disabling stroke, like what i would need to know. it is for a research paper for my cna class
thank you
Answer from your standpoint..... would anything you do hurt the patient.... like moving them, feeding them, etc. So you want to know how bad their disability is and whether they can swallow and what their other diseases are... you don't want to move someone with a chronic hip fracture.
Are they at risk for another stroke or other diseases like a heart attack where you would want to go real easy on them until those problems are resolved. (Maybe)
Nutrition in general... there may be food in the house, but can the person eat it with their disability... either swallow it or prepare it or get it to their mouth with a bum arm.
Toiletry... can they get around to the commode without help... if not, you have to make arrangements for a bedside until or something.
Also, is the house in general, handicap accessible to the needs of the stroke victim.
Hope this helps....
