Question thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question. i'm going to get straight to the point. i've worked in the veterinary field for the past 10 years. we almost daily coime across parasites. i dont believe that i have any, but who knows. i know that we routinely deworm pets, so my question is: should you also routinely deworm yourself? if so, what types of ant-parasitic drugs do people use? we use piperazine, pyrantol, praziquantel, flagyl, ivermectin and many others. are theses safe for people?
Answer flagyl is safe in humans but won't work for a lot of worms. The others aren't available in human prep, so we can't tell if they are dangerous. There are people antiworm pills but I usually don't do it routinely, only in response to (usually a kid) someone having worms in their stool.
There isn't a heartworm equiv in humans where the worms, if not removed, may kill the host.
Hope this helps....
