Question Although I have not had any invasive testing, I have been taking Prilosec-OTC for about 6 months or so, because my Gastro Dr. said I may have peptic ulcers. He had wanted to do an Upper GI and Colonoscopy but at the time my blood pressure was out of control and I didn't want to have the tests until I felt better. In the meantime, he gave me samples of Protonix and then I switched to Prilosec-OTC and they have help me very much for Reflux and the soreness from possible ulcers went away, except occasional flare-ups. Can having ulcers cause you to super-absorb nutrients or instantly feel effects of...say, Potassium or Magnesium, etc. ? For example, I know Bananas are full of potassium and sometimes when I eat them, I become woozy for a few minutes. Sometimes alcohol makes me woozy (not drunk) instantly after a few sips...and before last year, I never had these problems. I am going to be 39 years old next week. I am about 30 pounds overweight and I have had some hypoglycemic issues since last year, with my glucose dropping to 59 at the lowest point, when tested. I feel that for the most part, my blood sugar is kept under control by diet and eating more often. I am just wondering if you know of any unusual effects of having stomach ulcers ? My wooziness may not have anything to do with it...but it seems to be connected sometimes with eating/drinking and that may be my blood sugar, too...or sometimes I get these quick woozy spells when I'm sitting at my computer with my head tilted, putting pressure on my carotids or in that area...or when I bend to the side to look at something on a shelf, for example and put pressure on my neck/throat. I have actually had woozy episodes like this since age 20 or earlier but they were infrequent, like every 6 months or more...but since last year, they happen quite frequently and it's bothersome and scary. The episodes are over before they barely start and sometimes I gasp from the suddeness of it and the room DOES NOT spin, but my head inside seems to...and there's a twinging sensation around my temples when it happens. Lots of times I've noticed that it happens when I'm looking down or have my head in some position to put pressure on my neck/throat, carotids, diaphragm, or whatever. I do have cervical spine issues and have since the time these episodes started when I was younger. I do have Mitral Valve Prolapse, also (mild) and I do always have very good blood cholesterol levels, around 165, usually...but artery blockage runs in my family (maternal grandparents and an uncle) however, my mom has not had any problem, other than she is taking blood pressure meds. I just feel like my whole body is out of whack and has been for a year now and I don't know where to begin or what kind of MD to see...my family Dr. didn't seem too concerned and said it's probably the blood sugar issues...but I'm not so sure, especially with my head/neck position seeming to bring on woozy spells (but not always...like with the banana this morning). Is this too much info. that I'm bombarding you with ? I apologize but I'm tired of guessing what is going on with my body and would like to do something about it. Please, any advice is welcome ! Thanks !

Answer: Bananas, Avocado, Kiwi, figs and celery also have latex which can cause most of your symptoms, see www.medicalcenter.osu.edu/go/integrative for class schedules
