Family, Internal Medicine, General Medical Questions - females issues

Expert: Robert Borucki - 6/24/2009

Question
38yr old female with no known medical problems...lmp 05/19/09.....presenting with hemoglobin of 17.1, elevated bp of 170/100, saturation of one sanitary napkin in 5 min the flow eases to normal menstrual flow... no cramping or pain at the time of heaviest flow just a gushing feeling

Answer
these problems may not be related at all... blood pressure if that elevated consistently should be treated.  The Hb should be evaluated... a smoker will have a higher Hb (hemoglobin) but a non-smoker should be checked for a few things.  The heavy period is separate and should be evaluated also.
