Family, Internal Medicine, General Medical Questions - female question

Question
Hi!  First I want to thank you for taking the time to answer my question.  It is pretty simple I think.  I became sexually active again a few months ago.  I am 30.  For the past two months I have started my regular period, it lasted a little longer than normal but nothing to be alarmed about I don't think.  What I am worried about is that I started bleeding again a few days after I was off of my normal period.  I have NO pain or discomfort, the blood is a brighter red than my normal period.  Last month the 2nd go round of bleeding lasted 3 or 4 days.  I just started for the second time this month.  Is this because I have become sexually active again, is it hormones maybe??????  There is no pain and I feel good!  What the heck is going on?

Answer
Since you became sexually active, did you start or restart birth control pills?  A little abnormal bleeding doesn't worry me as long as you are sure you aren't pregnant and that you get regular pap smears and pelvic exams.... a lot of times, it is the hormone changes from birth control pills that causes irreg bleeding.  Hope this helps.
