I was a big drinker of green tea, and then one day I was decided to try oolong tea. My found that in a matter of 24 hours of drinking a strong brew of oolong tea, my skin looked dramatically different, similar to the effect I would get when I take grape seed or the trademarked pine bark extract (OPCs). This effect I had not got from drinking green tea.
Is it that oolong tea contains OPCs like compounds as opposed to just catechins? Or it is a case of oolong tea being more bioavailable than green tea.
Not exactly sure where the difference is coming from. Green tea (depending on where is is grown, processed, etc.) differs from Oolong tea (again depending on region grown, etc.) by the process of partial oxydation. Oxydation of the tea leaves will cause certain chemical reactions that produce a higher concentration of caffeine for example. Some things are gained and other things lost... as in the case of EGCG. But there can be dramatic content variation in the way the tea is grown and its location, soil mineral content, etc. So it is not a simple answer I am afraid.
