Family, Internal Medicine, General Medical Questions/"scores"?

I am a 66 year old male. What are good or healthy "scores" for the following tests? PSA, A1C, (I am a diabetic), cholesterol, and blood pressure (both numbers)? Yes, I get regular checkups and tests. I am just curious how close other doctors opinions are to those of my doctors.

For a 66 year old man I would say for the PSA and HbA1c scores the following:

PSA is being used less and less and is NOT a very good prostate test.  If your values have been less than 4.0 then I would not suggest testing but every 2 or 3 years.  Late onset prostate cancer over the age of 65 can occur but is usually benign.  Many have said it is NOT worth testing after 65 or 70 years of age.

HbA1c as a diabetic you want to try to keep the number as low as possible.  Under 7% for sure and under 6% better.

For Cholesterol read the following, but generally a total Cholesterol of under 200 is GOOD, with an HDL-C of 45 or better and an LDL-C of less than 130 should be goal... but there are many caveats so read this:

BP numbers:  Systolic (top) 120-130  and diastolic (bottom number) 80-90.  Anything higher than that is pre-HTN or stage 1 HTN (hypertension).  DBP of less than 80 and SBP less than 120 is also more desirable.

Hope that answers your questions.  Practice Guidelines from our National Doctor associations change regularly based on the latest research, so what is ''true'' today may change tomorrow.  This is the way of evidence based medicine.
