Question
What causes painful lipomas? I started getting them several months ago all over.  They are different sizes, all painful, and affecting every aspect of my life.  I have several bilaterally on my lower back, one on right scapula area, one behind left knee, inner knees bilaterally, mid-chest feels like bubble wrap, and one on my bottom.  I have a laundry list of other symptoms including, swelling in fingers, joint pain and mobility issues, severe depression and memory problems, fatigue, and irritability.  I don't have insurance so I really need help finding out what is wrong with me.  Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
Lipomas are usually not painful..... I would look at other causes for pain.  Lipomas are usually there long term, may get bigger with weight gain, or look more prominent with weight loss.   But the other symptoms are not related.  I would have your thyroid blood tests looked at for the other symptoms.
