Family, Internal Medicine, General Medical Questions - plavix

Expert: Robert Borucki - 9/10/2006

Question
I am a 52 year old female. my father not too long ago had quadruple bypass surgery and now my mother has had a stroke. she is on plavix. i would rather have heart surgery than a stroke should anything happen to me and was wondering if i should start taking plavix now to ward off a stroke if god forbid i have one. would this help? thank you.

Answer
NO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You need to have screening tests for these conditions, including a nuclear stress test and an ultrasound of your carotid arteries and cholesterol panel and thyroid tests.... then using that information for preventative care.

Plavix isn't the answer for you!
