Question
Hi Jeff,
I have different spellings of my first name and last name in my school
certificates and graduation certificates. Also i want to shorten my first name
and use it for all future references. I know I can get this via an Official
Gazette. My passport also carries my original name.
In near future I will travel to USA. Now, I want to shorten my name which will
be reflected in my passport. Also I want to pursue higher studies in USA.
My question is will my change of name create any problems for any american
visas or getting admission in any American University. I am software
professional.
Please advice me on this.

Thanks.

DISCLAIMER:
I AM NOT A LAWYER or ATTORNEY. I am someone who has experience with family law issues, and am sharing my OPINION only. For the exact law as it pertains to your specific case contact a Professional Attorney in your area/county.

Based on your question and statements it will depend on the COUNTRY in which you live. The process I believe is similar where you must petition the courts for official change of name: Once an order for Change of name has been approved by a Court you can get your passport, license, etc all changed to the new name you were Ordered/OK'd to use by the courts.

However, since you are not living in USA I do not know the entire process for you. Check with a Professional Attorney ( Someone who practices the laws in your Country) for further assistance.

Kind Regards,
Jeff
