Family Law (Divorce, Family Relations) - Child Support: Financial support after rape

Expert: Jeff Laatsch - 10/25/2009

Question
If I was raped by an unknown man and I decided that I wanted to keep the baby because I don;'t believe in abortion, how can I get help with child support when I don;t know who the father is? I have no income as I am on disability. They say they wont help because they need to go after the father.

Answer
Casey:
DISCLAIMER:
I AM NOT A LAWYER or ATTORNEY. I am someone who has experience with family law issues, and am sharing my OPINION only. For the exact law as it pertains to your specific case contact a Professional Attorney in your area/county/country.

I recommend hiring a Professional Attorney: Most Attorneys offer 1/2 free consultation time to discuss case and payment options.

I also recommend finding a Rape support group: They might have better answers but in most cases it is left up the STATE to assist: Going after the father being it is an unknown person makes it difficult UNLESS there is an open police file: AND Once person is caught they can collect child support.

Now doing some searching I found one of our own experts:  KIM allexperts.com Rape counseling....

She states: "get specialized help in your area by going to www.rainn.org.  Go to “Get Help” then “Find a Local Counseling Center” and enter your zip code.   You can also call Rainn at 1-800-656-HOPE."
