Question Since my divorce two years ago, my financial situation has changed drastically. I inherited my moms house with a debt from a reverse mortg.that I'm having trouble financing. Recently retired, has left me with very little. Can I apply for a reduction in alimony payments?
Answer Hi Johnny, simply not enough information to properly answer your question. If you voluntarily increased your debt while at the same time voluntarily reducing your income then there is little chance that any request for reduced alimony would be granted. However, a large part of your answer depends upon the current situation of you former spouse. Alimony is always based upon the obligors ability to pay and the receivers need.
I hope this information was helpful to you.
This answer is based solely on the information you have provided in your question and as always, I would advise that you arrange for an in person consultation with an attorney from my firm or another Family Law attorney familiar with Florida Family Law who can analyze the specific facts and circumstances of the case more closely to better advise you.
Sincerely,
