Subject: history of cowboy chaps

Question
I just need to know the history of chaps. More specifically..... cowboys don't squat with their spurs on for obvious reasons. But they learned the hard way not to crouch too close to the campfire while wearing a California company's most famous piece of cowboy gear. Tell us what was removed from the gear to cool everybody off. I am thinking that it is chaps, and am not sure what would have been removed. Help. Thanks

Answer
It sounds like you have two different questions here ~

1)  Chaps were created to protect cowboy's jeans from bushes etc. and also to provide extra warmth

2)  Levi's were originally created with metal rivets in the crotch area but the rivets were removed from the design in the 1940's for the reason you alluded to ~ as they acted as heat conductors
